Probably one of the most vital pieces of equipment in a catastrophic medical situation, the Combat Application Tourniquet (CAT) is now standard issue and should be readily accessible if the worst happens. There are many different types of TQ holder available but they should ensure the following:
- The TQ is secure but remains easy to remove
- The TQ is obvious (in case it's not you who is applying it)
- The TQ is protected from the elements / damage prior to use
This "Pop-up" TQ pouch from Mission Tailors beats the simple elastic holders for protection (think snagging) and ease of access. As you open the pouch flap, it pushes the CAT up making it easy to remove and use. Nice additions include the red tab on the Murdock webbing flap (to identify it as part of your IFAK) and the fact that it still only takes up a single MOLLE space! It can also loop easily around a working belt for those working in law enforcement/security environments.
